Game Overview
Barbarian II: The Dungeon of Drax is that classic late-80s hack-and-slash sequel where you pick between the axe-wielding barbarian or Princess Mariana (who, honestly, feels way faster with her sword). Your goal? Chase down the wizard Drax through four brutal stages—wastelands, caves, a dungeon, and finally his lair. Each screen is its own little death trap, full of monsters that respawn after you kill them (annoying) and skulls that give you extra lives (essential).
The combat’s simple but satisfying—four attack moves, including that ridiculous spinning neck chop that instantly decapitates enemies if you time it right. The flick-screen navigation takes some getting used to—exits don’t always line up logically, so you’ll be checking that compass at the bottom constantly. And yeah, you’ll die a lot. Those limited lives disappear fast unless you hunt down every skull hidden in the maze-like rooms.
It’s janky by today’s standards, but there’s something weirdly addictive about the grind. Just don’t expect the two-player mode from the first game—this one’s solo only.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
