Bomberman Max 2: Bomberman Version is basically the GBA doing what Bomberman does best—throwing you into tight little mazes where everything explodes. At first, it feels familiar: drop bombs, blow up walls, and try not to trap yourself. But then you start finding weird power-ups, like bombs that bounce or gloves that let you chuck them across the screen. The single-player mode throws in some oddball challenges too, like clearing stages before a timer runs out or herding these dopey-looking enemies into pits.
If you’ve got friends with GBAs and a link cable, that’s where it really shines. Four players crammed into one screen, everyone frantically boxing each other in with explosions—it’s pure chaos, in the best way. The Bomberman version has its own set of stages and items compared to the Red version, so if you’re into collecting both, there’s a reason to hunt this one down. It’s not reinventing the wheel, but it’s a solid pocket-sized version of that classic Bomberman tension where one wrong move blows up in your face (literally).
