Man, 2020 Super Baseball on SNES is one of those games that makes you wonder why more people don’t talk about it. It’s like someone took regular baseball, strapped a jet engine to it, and then sprinkled in just enough sci-fi nonsense to keep things interesting. The pitchers throw these ridiculous laser-fastballs that leave a glowing trail, and half the batters look like they belong in a cyberpunk anime.
First time I played, I accidentally hit a home run that literally set the outfield on fire—no joke, there’s an animation for that. The two-player mode is where it really shines, though. My buddy and I spent way too many afternoons yelling at each other over stolen bases that definitely shouldn’t have been possible. It’s not a deep sim by any means, but if you want baseball with the dial turned to 11, this is your game.
Also, the umpire robot might be my favorite video game referee of all time. He doesn’t take crap from anyone.
